Focus your attention on the new spring fashions; lovely trends abound. Dresses are in, yet jeans remain amazingly popular. Pantsuits and pants are cool, although their styling may be contradictory. Fabrics truly run the gamut from light silks to wool blends. Color schemes venture from bright hues to black and white and navy and white. There is clearly something for everyone, and there are plenty of choices to update your look and your wardrobe.

Let’s start with dresses. You’ll see the return of the mini dress. While the baby doll silhouette is chic, the shirt waist and the wrap dresses are equally popular. Try both of these styles and decide which style is right for you. Know that longer lengths are also acceptable. A shirred and divided A-line dress is a great relaxed look for spring. Strapless sundresses are great for those with toned shoulders. Choose geometric or flowered prints in rayon and silk for fabrics; solids with white in cotton or linen are also a good look.

Designer jeans tend to be expensive and are definitely a permanent part of the American wardrobe. Carefully choose the style that looks best. The good news this season is that high waisted jeans are just as popular as low rise; figure out which is more flattering to you. New denim washes and colors are also trendy.

Pantsuits and pants remain incredibly strong. Comfortable, yet fashionable, they are a staple in most closets. Fitted jackets with classic pants are popular; the fabric choice is most likely a wool blend. A more casual look might be a loosely fitted jacket with updated cargo pants in silk and linen. Pair with a feminine blouse to create a tasteful look. Pant shapes run from classic to skinny and beyond. Cargoes, cropped, wide leg, and high waisted are all in the mix this season.

Tops abound; shapes are all over the map. Lovely empire waisted blouses in silk and viscose have a decidedly bohemian flair. A low waisted blouse is a very sophisticated look. Tee shirts remain strong; wear them as an underpinning for your suits.

You may have noticed a new design on Saks Fifth Avenue shopping bags and storefronts. The script logo was actually designed by Massimo Vignelli in 1973. The new logo was achieved by dividing the old one into 64 unique squares and then scrambling them. It’s a great updated look.

Neiman Marcus Willlow Bend has announced the March fashion schedule. On March 9, there will be a “Cupcakes and Couture Event” in Fine Apparel. A Manolo Blahnik Trunk Show in Designer Shoes will be held March 13-17. Designer George Sharp of Ellen Tracy will make a personal appearance on March 16 in the Sports Shop.

Northpark Center will host “Fashion at the Park” March 7-10 featuring the runway shows of Oscar de la Renta, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and several others.
