Plano's legacy

Plano Size

Remarkable, in 1970 there were only 17,000 residents in Plano. Today over 240,000 people call Plano home.

Plano Continues to Grow
Thanks to Plano's outstanding business opportunities and the acclaimed Plano Independent School District, Plano is a vibrant, flourishing community. As the trend continues, Plano is expected to reach population maturity with 255 to 260 thousand residents in 2010.

Plano's awards and international recognition really put the city on the map! Recent accolades include:

  • One of the Best Cities for Women with populations under 300,000,
    Ladies Home Journal
  • Recipient of the 2004 Keep Texas Beautiful Governor's Community
Achievement Award of Excellence and Keep Texas Beautiful Gold Star Affiliate Award
  • Money Magazine named Plano the hottest town in the West

Urban Living at it's Best
Plano's most recent achievement is the creation of a Transit Village in historic Downtown Plano. The city center offers urban living at its best. Late 19th and early 20th century history commercial buildings now house restaurants, shops, spas, art galleries and theaters. Contemporary town & apartment homes complete the compact pedestrian environment. You can walk everywhere!

In the sprawling Dallas/ Fort Worth metroplex, historic downtown Plano is truly an oasis. Easy access to the DART light rail service allows residents to work, play and live without ever getting on an interstate!
