Armed with a dream, a vision, and an exceptional work ethic, our president and publisher, Jean Newman launched Wishbone Graphics, Inc. in 1982. From day one, the company impacted the very fabric of our community and we continue to do so. Supporting the nonprofit sector, the arts, women's organizations, and civic involvement, Plano Profile and Collin Quest magazines are the community's respected source for topical information about our vibrant cities.
Jean has been recognized for her leadership skills and entrepreneurial efforts many times through the years. In 2002, she was named the Citizen of the Year in Plano; in 1998, she received the Andre' Davidson Spirit of Volunteerism Award. During 1989, the Plano Chamber of Commerce presented her with the Small Business Person of the Year award; and in 1987, only five years after starting her company she received the Athena Award which recognizes the Outstanding Business Woman of the Year.
A respected advocate for education, women, and the arts, Jean's volunteer work centers on these subjects. She served as the 2004 chairman of the Plano Chamber of Commerce board of directors and a member of the 2004 Plano Economic Development Board. Jean completes a five-year term on the Plano Chamber board in December 2005. Other organizations to which Jean has given time, experience, and support include the Arts of Collin County commission and the Plano Public Library System. The Community Credit Union, the Junior League of Plano, the Collin County Community College Foundation, and the Plano Symphony Orchestra have all benefited from Jean's knowledge and board participation.
One of the most recognized features in each issue of the magazines is Jean's artwork. She is an accomplished artist and uses oils, watercolor, and other media to create her paintings. Each month Jean paints a special piece for our contents page in the issue. Her subjects are inspired from a variety of Jean's vast experiences and joys - from her beloved standard poodle Mr. Duffelton playing catch with a Frisbee to her visit to Plano's sister city in China, they are a delight to see each month.
