Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the country’s first Greek-letter organization founded by African American women at Howard University in 1908. American Sewing Guild is a national organization for people who enjoy sewing. The Plano chapter includes seven different groups that meet at various times and locations. The main meeting is on the fourth Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church on the corner of Parker and Custer roads. Founded in 1985, the organization has more than 5,800 chapters throughout every populated continent of the world. Collin County Rose Society began almost 20 years ago and has been growing ever since. It remains dedicated to the cultivation and spread of information about the best roses in America and the best roses for this area. The society holds an annual Collin County Rose Tour and is involved in many county-wide events. Monthly meetings are usually on the first Friday of the month at the Spring Creek Campus of Collin College, Room B-124.
