It was a game of "catch me if you can" as cyclists pedaled through Plano on August 7. Registration opened at the crack of dawn for the Plano Fun Ride, and organizers and volunteers were scurrying around with flashlights. It wasn't long though before the sun peeked over east Plano prompting cyclers from all over Collin County to join in the ride. Jasper's high school parking lot was bustling with bikers of all ages stretching, hydrating, and airing up their tires.

Cyclists in the 31-mile-route took off at 7 a.m. and headed north to Ridgeview Drive, veered east to Custer Road, then turned south all the way past 15th Street. From there, they made their way to Winding Hollow (past Preston) before turning north toward homebase. At 8 a.m., the Family Fun ride sent cyclists down 5- and 10-mile routes.
There were three rest stops along the way and at the last stop, members from the Plano Sunrise Rotary, the Plano West Rotary, and the Plano-Metro Rotary passed out water and bananas and sprayed cyclists with a water hoseāthe cyclists didn't seem to mind it a bit.
Proceeds of the Plano Fun Ride benefited the Relief Nursery of Collin County, a nonprofit child abuse prevention agency that focuses on "building successful and resilient children, strengthening parents, and preserving families."
