Why is red such an exciting color to wear? Recent data suggests that wearing red may increase the chance for romance. Psychological tests were conducted at The University of Rochester: men were asked to rate attractiveness in women wearing red and other colors. The red group was rated significantly more attractive than the same women wearing other colors. A chance of romance on Valentine's Day is certainly a groovy reason for donning red; there are other grounds for wearing the color of romance.

Red creates a bold statement; consider a "Herve Leger" type party dress and accessorize with red jewelry and color-blocked platforms. Red is dramatic; select a '50s-style sleeveless dress with V-neck; add red enamel jewelry and a few gold chains. Red flatters most figures; dresses made of silk-like viscose work well for all. Chemises and dresses with gathered skirts are good "shape" choices. Red creates a chic silhouette; strapless dresses worn with minimal jewelry showcase shoulders, creating a symmetrical silhouette.

Don't forget that pink is part of the red family and deserves its place on Valentine's Day. Try color-blocking pink with black and add black pumps or select a feminine pink party dress.

The most important accessory for red dressing is red lipstick. As Makeup Artist Jon Parker explains, "Red lipstick enhances the eyes and skin tone while defining the mouth. Red lipstick has historically outsold any other cosmetic. With an array of shades to choose from, red lipstick is a must for Valentine's Day."

Enjoy February 14 whether romance is in the air or not; it's a fabulous day to appreciate family and friends and it's a great day to wear red!
